Adobe Illustrator: Drawing a rectangle with only ONE rounded corner
I was beating my brain about this…one would think that Adobe Illustrator, the most powerful drawing tool on the planet would have an easier way to do this. The program by default is great for drawing vector squares, rectangles, circles, stars, and even rectangles with rounded corners…
But lets say you need a square with only ONE rounded corner, while the others are still perfect right angles?
There is no out of the box way to do this.
I’ve read online of scripts and plug-ins that can do the work for you…but I just needed ONE shape, and probably wouldn’t need another any time soon, so downloading, installing and testing a script or a plug-in seemed like a lot of extra work for something so damn…simple.
Then it hit me. It’s easy peasy.
Here’s how you do it:
1) Create 3 rectangles and one rounded rectangle at roughly the size you need you final shape to be (the colors here are simply to define the different shapes):
2) Click the unite icon on the Pathfinder palette (Window > Pathfinder):
3) Your finished shape awaits…
How simple is that? Right?
Ok…yeah you figured it out on your own.
Well, at least I thought it was pretty neat….
