Musical Muse: INXS

I had a great interview yesterday, one of those interviews where you pray and pray to get the job because you want to work at the company so badly. While there, I got to talking with one of my (hopefully) future co-workers about music and our musical backgrounds in particular.

Now, anyone who knows me, knows I am a music freak. FREAK. I listen to anything and everything, and despite my dislike for the genre in general, can even name a few country artists I like (Dwight Yoakam’s “Guitars and Caddilacs” changed my mind forever). Depending on my mood, the weather, how sleepy I am, or a million other tiny factors, I could be listening to Killswitch Engage one moment, then a 1920’s Louis Armstrong recording the next, and then switch to an obscure Einsturzende Neubauten bootleg, and then Mavin Gaye…just the other day, my progression of CDs for the morning was Etta James, Duran Duran, Lamb of God, BB King, Bob Dylan, Iron Maiden and then INXS.

The funny thing is, for some reason I can’t quite put my finger on, I have played this INXS cd at least once a day for the past couple of weeks now. It’s a CD I found buried in a pile of others, that I created years ago, back in the Napster pre-Lars Ulrich vendetta days. And I’m completely unashamed to say how much I really like these songs. They bring back some great memories.

So, in order…here they are. Enjoy.

And if you’re old enough? Remember a few things in your own life attached to these songs. After all this 80’s remembering…I need to do a punk post next. Misfits…Exploited….Bad Brains…Subhumans…YEAH!

(oh yeah…and if someone could tell me why we all thought the lyric “and if I ever hurt you / I’d make wine from your tears” was ROMANTIC I’d appreciate. In hindsight, thats not romantic in the slightest. “So sorry I’m making you cry babe…here let me put this glass under your chin, because we cant waste all that salty goodness thats pouring out of your face…”.)
