100 Best Companies To Work For
Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” has been posted. Sadly, NONE are in Philadelphia, and the closest is Novo Nordisk in Princeton, NJ. The rest are North Jersey or New York. (on a side note…guess who is getting a copy of my resume in the next 5 minutes?) … Read entire article »
SOPA and PIPA are not dead: But you still can help kill them
From Wikipedia: Thank you. The Wikipedia blackout is over — and you have spoken. More than 162 million people saw our message asking if you could imagine a world without free knowledge. You said no. You shut down Congress’s switchboards. You melted their servers. Your voice was loud and strong. Millions of people have spoken in defense of a free and open Internet. For us, this is not about money. It’s about knowledge. As a community of authors, editors, … Read entire article »

Protesting PIPA / SOPA….I’m torn on how
The online protests against PIPA and SOPA will include many people blacking out their blogs. And although I agree…I’m looking for work right now. Can I afford to have my blog go black for an entire day? I’ll be honest, when my fiancee turned to me last night and said, “That Estelle lady you follow on Twitter is saying you should make your blog black to protest SOPA…” I had no clue what she was talking … Read entire article »

Updated portfolio posted
I have posted an updated portfolio at eyeadept.com/portfolio/. Built on a WordPress framework, I used the bones of a showcase theme, and then ripped it apart and remolded it to do what I needed it to. This will explain why I’ve gotten NOTHING done on my piece for this weeks “Illustration Friday”…hope to tackle that tonight. The reason for the portfolio site is pretty simple: because I was wrong. Dead wrong. To explain, when I launched my resume page, I thought it would just be simpler if I created a download-able PDF with a sampling of my work in it. My reasoning was, since people would be grabbing my resume, giving them a portfolio they could print WITH the resume would be a great choice. However, in looking at my site stats, I found that … Read entire article »

Looking for a job? Overused resume buzzwords
Let’s be honest here…writing resumes sucks. Really. I can’t think of anything more painful and tedious than writing about yourself, other than stating a straight up experience like you would in a blog. Figuring out what to include, what not to include and how to present it…wow…can I sign up to do that every day please? I think one of the main reasons we all seek a job where we can work for a long long time, right after stability and being part of great work that matters, is to avoid having to rewrite our resumes. Next time you’re updating your resume, you should also keep in mind this recent posting on the BusinessWire site: “LinkedIn Says Most Overused Buzzwords Are “Extensive Experience, Innovative and Motivated”” Ready for the Top 10? 1. Extensive experience 2. Innovative 3. Motivated 4. Results-oriented 5. … Read entire article »

Medical tattoos…
Technology saving lives…again. And the meek geek shall inherit the Earth. If you suffer from diabetes, you’d probably do just about anything to end the pain and drudgery of sticking your fingers with needles several times a day to draw blood for glucose testing. A group of researchers at the University of Illinois, Northwestern University, and Dailan University of Technology in China that is exploiting the techniques used in making temporary tattoos and transferring them to the skin may someday make that wish come true. In a paper published today in the online edition of Science magazine, the group reports that it has developed ultrathin nanoscale electronics such as sensors for measuring a patient’s brain or heart activity and transmitters and receivers for wirelessly reporting vital signs. Incorporating these devices in tattoos would … Read entire article »
